I have chosen the essay on pg.573 by Quindlen (A Pyrrhic Victory). I chose this particular one because it is the only one I found interesting enough to read all the way through. I hope to be able to write a paper on it since I was able to actually read and understand it. I plan on brainstorming some types of evidences and appeals I think are in this writing and pick the best ones. I will then write my paper. I think the main support I will need is for the professor to make sure I have picked the main appeals and evidences from the papers. The main types of evidence and appeals I have so far are an invented instance which I believe creates also a pathos appeal, the argument of parents supposed rights vs. their children’s rights, and TV ads vs. family time and parents.

My paper will be on the article titled "A Pyrrhic Victory" by Anna Quindlen. As a teenager, I can relate to this essay so I feel it will be slightly easier to write about. In this essay there are real events, invented instances and numerous appeals to write about in my paper. I would appreciate help deciding which appeals and evidences are best to write about. Once I have this figured out is should be fairly simple to put them together and form my paper.

For my first essay, I have selected the essay on page 795 written by Howard Gardner. The reason I chose this one essay because I can understand it easier than the other essays. This essay have some specific sources such as the College Board of Education and ethical reasons of the author himself. I have read the essay two times(very slowly) and highlighted some things I thought would be useful. I believe the support from my peers are the extra ingredients (whipped cream and chocolate syrup) because sometimes I'll just write straight forward and does not analyze what I have written. My professor will have to help me with deciding the different types of appeals and claims because I want to have a strong support of the essay I have chosen.

For my first essay I have chosen, In Defense of Testing by Diane Ravitch, on page 798. I chose this essay because it holds my attention greatly, and is a topic I can relate to as a student. It seems that this certain essay would be easy to talk about since I actually understood it. But, the main types of evidence that I took focus on was experimenation and the statistics. The whole point point of testing is based off experimentation, to give the teacher a mere idea where the student stands in their classroom.

I chose to do my essay on "In Defense of Testing" by Diane Ravitch. I chose this one because I have a disadvantage in reading comprehension which causes me to suffer when taking a test. Testing provides information about my performance and provides me with extra instruction when needed. The evidence that I identified in this essay was real events and the appeal that I identified was the logical appeal. My plan for completing this paper is to brainstorm and to have some peers to edit my paper. The support I need from my peers or professor in writing this paper to help me organize my information so I can write my paper correctly.

I have chosen to write my essay on "Condoms: The New Diploma" by Rush Limbaugh. I chose this essay because the main topic of the essay, distributing comdoms in public schools, is something that interested me enough that I wanted to read the entire essay. So far I have noticed that this essay contains many examples of invented instances and claims of cause. My plan for completing this paper is to pace myself so I can do the best work I am capable of. Also, I plan to read the essay through several times and to highlight important points so that I have a complete understanding of what I'm writing about. I hope that throughout this process I will receive constructive criticism from my peers and professor and possibly be able to have someone proof read my paper.

The essay I have chosen for writing my paper is A Pyrrhic Victory written by Anna Quindlen. The reason I chose this essay is because I feel it is a topic I can write a sufficient amount on. Also, Anna Quindlen’s writing style is very distinctive and will be easy to critic and write a lot about it. I identified her tone within the first couple paragraphs, and her topic is a real event that is an actual dilemma in the current world today. I write best when I am focusing on present day events and something that involves people, not liberal education or whether schools should give out tests. Given, I will have an introduction then my first body paragraph I will briefly summarize/describe what the article is covering. The next three to four paragraphs will address the key arguments within the article and throughout those paragraphs I will feed in the credibility of each argument. My ending paragraph(s) will evaluate the effectiveness of the essay as a whole, and then I will pull everything together in the conclusion. I am a good writer that has a lot of ideas but my main problem is organizing them, because I tend to jump around a lot. So the support I may need from my peers or professor is help me stay organized and constant throughout my paper. Also, I am relieved that we have certain due dates because I do tend to procrastinate and I feel if I learn the standard routine for writing a college paper then ill be prepared for the next writing assignment.

I chose the Patrick Allitt essay "Should Undergraduates Specialize?". I chose the Allitt essay because I remember it being one of the only essays I really agreed with. Another reason I picked it was because the whole essay was an analogy between his college experience and his daughters soon to be college experience. There is also evidence by real events, since he tells stories of his experiences, ethos, since he raises his credibility by already experiencing what he's talking about and being a college professor, and logos, by stating the positives and negatives of the systems. I will touch on all of thest types of evidences but go into more detail about the analogy perspective and ethos. The only real support I should need is the composition of my paper or help on going more in depth on one or the evidences.

I have chosen the article Condoms: The New Diploma for my first paper. I chose this particular essay because it seemed interesting. I feel that this is a very under the radar topic and it will be a fresh subject to read about. The writing style is also refreshing, especially because it strays from the over serious tone. I believe right from the start I have noticed Limbaugh using a lot of invented instances. He somehow manages a few real events but I have yet to notice any analogies. Limbaugh also uses claims of cause and policy through out his article. My plan is to read and reread to get as much as I can from this article. I will write notes and keep it in a order that will help organize my paper. As far as support goes, I just really want to maintain a positive work experience so hopefully it will influence my paper. Other than that, I believe everything will be fine.

I am trying out on "A Proposal to Abolish Grading" by Goodman because this made interesting for students to get ideas about testing importances. I hope to understand this so i can write on essay. So i planned to figure some out by myself if I read this again and again. The evidence I identified with testing and some people searching for students with high intelligent minds so they could go to Harvard University while ignoring others who worked so hard for it. I might need support to make sure I do right on essay like right answer or in right way if you understand my meaning.

The article I have chosen is David Eggers article "Serve or Fail." In his essay he wrote on a topic that clearly interested him, and he presented his evidence in such a way that made it easy for me to be compelled to read on and agree with his argumentation. His topic and his writing is not hard to comprehend, yet are full of sufficient material to use. After creating a list of Eggers arguments and appeals, pulling quotes to use as to support each argument and appeal, I shall compose a first draft to edit myself; this shall not the draft that I turn in on Friday for the peer-editing/writing workshop. During peer-editing I hope that my paper shall be edited not only for grammar and spelling and the simple English basics but also for where detail can be added or removed if necessary. A thorough inspection of my paper by my peers I hope that my teacher will be able to also find places where detail is lacking and where it doesn’t quite match up to the specifications that are required. After editing in class I’ll continue to revise my paper until the final draft is due.

The essay that I choose to write about is the essay on page 597 written by Louis Menand. The reason for picking this essay is because I can relate to this topic rather than any topics in the other essays. There is many types of evidence that can be talked about. There is a little bit of cause, definition, policy. My plan for completing the paper is my gradually going step by step starting with brain storming then writing a rough draft. Then when I finish with the rough draft I will do some revising and finish up with my final copy.

I have chosen to write about the essay titled No Laptops, Please. I picked this essay because Robert McClellan makes a number of different claims as to why laptops should be banned within the classroom. He compares laptops to lapdogs, and speaks his mind about wanting to be able to see his students’ faces while he teaches them. McClellan makes several logical appeals toward his readers to back up his heavy opinion. He tells of his experiences as a teacher trying to teach while a select few students are tippity- tap-taping on their laptops. I plan on completing my paper by using and defining McClellan’s arguments to create a successful paper. In doing so, I need constructive criticism and helpful advice from my professor and peers.

The essay i chose is A Pyrrhic Victory by Anna Quinden. I chose this essay because it is something that i can relate to and i like that the tone of the essay is kind of sarcastic but gets straight to the point. It shows appeals of ethos and pathos. It also shows authorative testimony and real events.

I chose the essay on laptops on page 557-559 entitled "Why ban laptops from the classroon?" by Tina Rosovsky. I chose this essay because I believe in what Rosovsky has to say about laptops in the classroom and she makes several claims of evidence and appeals such as real events when she starts out her essay. I will probably need some support from my professor in writing this paper so i can make sure i have identified all of the evidence correctly because sometimes they tend to be misleading.
