Writing my first essay was a good experience and will help me with the rest of the essays that we have to write in class. It helped me get back in real writing mode after being out of school all summer. However, it was hard getting it started at first. I have never written a paper on arguments and assessing claims before but it was interesting and different to do. It made me feel like I had learned and accomplished something when we revised our papers in our groups in class. The girl that looked over and read my paper said that she really enjoyed my writing and she made a few changes and corrections to better my paper. I really am enjoying this class and until now, I was never really excited to write.
The experience of writing my first essay for English seemed a little terrifying at first. Although I have written papers throughout all of my education, college papers always seemed to be more demanding than before. In my AP Language and Composition class we wrote essays that were supposed to be quite similar to college essays, however that was clearly wrong. In my AP class we were allowed a certain number of errors, whether those errors were spelling and grammar or a misevaluation of the question. In high school opinions were expected, and they usually started off with “I believe that…” letting the reader, i.e. the teacher, know exactly where the author stood on such a manner. The level of writing ability was nowhere near the expectations that this English class demands. That is what made this essay seem completely, mind-numbingly painful…at first anyways. After the first draft I felt at ease about this paper and after the grueling exercise of editing in class that flaunted all of my horrible mistakes but in the end was worth every second, college essays don’t seem so hard. Naturally there is more work that is involved, and of course a higher thought process, but it is not nearly as petrifying as everyone makes it seem. Maybe it was because this essay unnaturally easy due to the fact that it was an analysis on a essay that was read and talked about in class, or because I managed to change my writing for the better and was grateful for the writing workshop exercise, either way I enjoyed writing this essay.
Since this is my first essay for class I think it was a pretty good experience for me. Since I was allow to share my essay with a few people and get to read a few to give some clues for me. At first, it was hard to write a correctly formatted paper because I have been out from school for two months and it was hard to pick up the pace again. I've written papers on arguments before but never on one essay and having to assess how the author uses the different types of appeals and claims to create his effectiveness and credibility. I've written lots of paper comparing and contrasting arguments from two different perspective but never one like this before. In AP English class that I took in high school, we were taught about different types of appeals and claims and how to add them into our writings. Yet, my ap english teacher never let us choose the topic we want to write about. She always have one essay picked for the entire class. It was always hard for me to begin writing the essays because it is not in my interest to do so.
The experience of writing my first essay was very hard for me. I had difficulty in expanding on the strategies, credibility and the effectiveness of the essay as a whole. The assignment was not easy, especially in having to write three or four pages about such a short essay. I spent many more hours trying to complete this writing assignment than doing other assigned homework.
Reflect upon your experience writing your first essay. Due Monday, 8 September.
Writing my first college essay was a good experience. In high school we were given up two weeks before it was due. So I was kind of scared when I saw that it was due in about a week's time. Nonetheless, I knew I had to do well so I remained focused. I believe I took the appropriate time with my paper and that made all the difference. I wasn't rushed and I had time to think about what I was writing. Going over the papers in class gave me a better idea of what was demanded of my paper. I feel so much more at ease because I know how to better plan my essay. I really believe this was a good experience for me and my future college papers.
Writing this kind of essay with thesis is maybe my first time because I misunderstood this describes about it as my father helped me out. While I was working on it at the beginning, I was confused at the first because I didn't know what you expected for me to typed it down. As I was done with first draft, I passed it to my father for a help out. He kept telling me that I wrote as book report and I needed to write about thesis, I kept telling him I have no idea what thesis is trying to tell me. He gave me several hints about thesis then I just tried what I learned from him. I was stressed out because it was first time for me to write on essay. As everyone in high school told me that I was the best writer but the truth I only wrote my opinions and never been experience with other authors' opinions so I tried again and again with my father's help.
Although it's good experience for me so I will try and try again if I do this wrong. I just need to learn more about writing skills in different ways. It's different from what I wrote or typed in high school. I want to improve my writing skills so I can write my own stories in the future which I am working some but not successful... sadly.
My writing experience Friday went like any other. I didnt really get anything out of it and i have never been any good at writing. I dont expect to get a good grade and i hope i can still pass this class even though i might fail this assignment. I have never been good at revising papers either because i dont know what im looking for so im afraid i wasnt much help to my group either.
Usually I'm not very good at analyzing other authors' works but this time I think I did better than I usually do. Strangely enough, this essay was one of the easiest I've written in a long time.
One word for my first college essay, stressful! Not knowing if the paragraphs were long enough, the material was correct, the grammar was sufficient, and if sounded intelligent. Those examples did stress me a little bit but i understand that this was just my first paper and there is going to be much room for revising and improvement. Once i receive my grade and feed back from the teacher i can analyze were i am in the class and if my writing is sufficient for my college level. I felt good about my paper, I worked really hard on it and i kept printing it out and revising it. I tried using quotes, transition sentences, and everything i was taught in high school in high hopes of doing well on this paper.
My first essay at Lenoir-Rhyne was a challenging one, yet a educating one. I found it difficult to get started but once I did it came easy to me, which let me know that I am able to write effectively on my ideas. Writing is not a favorite activity of mine but I had fun writing this paper and evaluating where I stand as a college writer
Writing my first essay wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. Although I'm really good at analyzing arguments through claims and strategies yet, I feel as though I did a decent job on my essay. This essay was different from the ones I had done in high school so I think it better prepared me for future essay I will write in college. I don't think I really have the hang of proof reading other people's papers just yet but hopefully I will get better at that with time.
Writing my first essay wasn't as stressful as I made it out to be. I think if I just write alittle bit everyday. Then I will acumulate all what I need for the essay. But over all it was good, and I actually liked the experience.
The writing of my first essay has been decent. I have to say it has tested my writing abilities with using the MLA format. I am unfarmiliar with MLA, so it has been quite amusing. I have tried to get help from the 'Writing Center'...in which no one was present to help me. So, I am a bit frustrated there. My citations will probably be wrong. But, it also falls back on me for not retrieving help from Dr. Heller sooner. Busy times happen, I guess. All in all I have not had a great deal of hardship with my essay. I am still grasping writing a thesis statement. Not really sure why I don't seem to understand it yet. But, I feel this essay is just the breaking of the ice for more fun to come.
Writing my first essay was a great experience in my opinion. It will give me something to look back on for other papers I have due in your class. I can always look back on this paper and assess what I did wrong and what I can do better on future papers. I've always written papers with pretty straight forward prompts. This was a different type of essay, it had more in depth thinking, and more of a knowledge for the arguments, strategies and appeals. Writing an essay on arguments was a good experience because along with the authors opinion on an argument, you could include you opinion on the argument. Writing this paper persuaded my views of writing papers. I really wasn't a great writer in high school and didn't like writing papers but this paper persuaded me that there are all different forms of writing and I'm starting to like it.
This was my first paper of my college experience. It was very difficult to remember what I had been taught throughout my time in high school. When I showed Joe my essay during class he found many grammatical errors. But I am glad that he found things wrong with it so I could fix my mistakes before handing it in. Hopefully it will help me in other essays in the future. I have a feeling that I will need that experience because I did not have to write very many papers in high school. But, overall the first essay I had to write went really well.
Writing this essay was very hard for me. It was hard to discuss the essay and not give your opinion. That was probably the hardest part. I was unclear really on what exactly to do and at first I was going in the wrong direction and now that it’s done I still don’t think I did it correctly but I’ll learn from it and do better next time.
