Dictionary.com says that prayer is the act or practice of praying to God or an object of worship. I am doing my research paper on Should Prayer Be Allowed in Public Schools? The most interesting thing I’ve found so far in my research from the Engel v. Vitale court in 1962 said that “the Supreme Court ruled unconstitutional the following prayer that students in the New York State public schools recited at the beginning of each day: “Almighty God, we acknowledge our dependence upon Thee, and we beg Thy blessings upon us, our parents, our teachers and our Country.” It is interesting because there was once prayer in public school, it was deemed acceptable by the public to openly have a God that you pray to for guidance. However, because of this court case prayer in the public school systems was removed because the Supreme Court ruled it a violation of church and state.
I found some really interesting facts about stem cells and the different types there are. I didn't know that stem cells could actually be treated for so many things. Right now I am still researching more information because it is hard to search for my topic.
The most interesting thing I've found isn't really a fact it's a different way to view my topic. While researching in the book "Against Liberation: Putting Animals in Perspective" I discovered a neat way to think about "anti-fur" and arguments that could be posed against this belief. Animal rights is a tough topic for most people and this excerpt asks the question of where to draw the line. This article says "what about the worms?" Should fishermen not be allowed to use worms for bait since this kills worms? I thought this was a very different way to look at animals rights. Where should we draw the line?
The interesting ones I found the most is in http://www.nps.gov/archive/yell/yellowstoneindepth/episode4transcript.htm which shows many facts that scientists found in Yellowstone Park about wolves. Scientists found that wolves can chase the prey, not just sick or weak ones that they used to preyed on. Wolves are the most misunderstood creatures in USA, as far I know of. Wolves prove that they are the survivors here in the United States.
Even though finding information about the possibility of justifiable abortion due to the life of the mother is quite difficult, I have found some interesting information. The ethics concerning the mother’s life is rarely considered by people who consider themselves “pro-life.” I thought that the following website, http://www.prolifephysicians.org/rarecases.htm, brought up some interesting view points on this issue. Sometimes during a pregnancy there is a possible issue of the mother possibly having other health issues. For instance, pro-life physicians.org gives an example of breast cancer. “The mother does not have to chose a therapeutic abortion, however if she so chooses to take the medicine and that medicine kill the infant, there is no intention for killing the child.” However, just because the mother’s medicine could possibly hurt the child does not mean the mother should take therapeutic abortion. Medicine is so advanced that most medical technologies can avoid such things. Overall, this was a very interesting article and it is very exciting seeing so many opinions on such a controversial topic.
The most interesting thing Ive discovered about gambling is how bad the addiction can get. Gambling is a habit to some but for others it can become a serious addiction costing people their family, their homes and sometimes their lives. I found a story about a young man that took out a 60000 dollar second mortgage to bet on horse racing that just jumped out to me as when someone hits rock bottom.
I am actually having a hard time trying to find out which specific subject i would like to write my paper on. I found something on www.bbc.com that talked about alcohol and how it affects the baby and the mother during pregnacy. Id i choose to work with this, the most interesting thing i have founf would be that a little alcohol, one drink every now and then, does not hurt the baby at all.
I am doing my research paper on the ethics of abortion and so far I have been having a little bit of trouble finding research on this topic. I have found some abortion statistics that I thought were pretty interesting. One statistic from www.studyworld.com shows that 51% of men favor abortion but only 47% women are in favor of abortion. One other thing I find interesting about abortion is the reasons many women have abortions, for example they can't afford a baby right now or she doesn't want others to know she is sexually active.
I'm having a hard time finding much of anything on my topic.
To tell the truth I havent found anything interesting because my topic is so hard to do. But a question that came to my mind about the whole subject, is that when is it acceptable for a woman to terminate a pregnancy? That's the most interesting thing I came possibly come up with.
